Industrial and Manufacturing: What You Need to Know

Hello! My name is Ken and I would like to welcome you to my new industrial and manufacturing blog. I don't work in the industry myself, but ever since I was a child, I have been fascinated with the way things are made on an industrial scale. It all started when my dad bought me a book about Victorian engineers. I was amazed at the scale and scope of their industry. As I grew older, I kept up a keen interest in the sector and subscribed to several trade magazines. Last year, I retired from my job at the bank so I decided to start this blog.

4 Reasons You Should Consider Scissor Lift Hire

Since the invention of scissor lifts in the first half of the 20th century, they have not only been increasing in quality, efficiency, and usability, but also in popularity. Due to their success, scissor lifts are one of the most frequently rented types of equipment by contractors, companies and home-improvers. If you need to do a high-altitude job which can't be done safely with a ladder, the chances are that scissor lift hire is your best option.

So, why are scissor lifts so popular? And why should you consider hiring one?

They're Highly Manoeuvrability

Usually, when working in high places, manoeuvrability is very limited; this is not the case with scissor lifts.

Some scissor lifts can extend not only vertically, but also horizontally, allowing for a much higher manoeuvrability. This horizontal movement is, however, not often necessary, as most scissor lifts have a railed extension deck, which allow for access to harder-to-reach areas. Extension decks usually extend mechanically from underneath the main deck, as to not take up any space.

Scissor lifts are also easy to drive, normally with controls on the main deck so you can move while the lift is extended.

They're Cost Effective

Scissor lifts are usually one of the cheapest aerial work platforms to rent. This cost-effectiveness is due primarily to their simplicity and abundance.

It is true that some jobs which require a scissor lift can be done with a ladder. However, ladders can be extremely dangerous, and in the long run you'll find that you save on medical bills.

They're Versatile

Scissor lifts are also capable of many things. The list of jobs where a scissor lift would be appropriate is long. Here are a few of the major common uses:

  • Tree trimming or branch cutting. The sturdy platform of a scissor lift is much safer than other options when sawing or using other sharp tools at a higher altitude.
  • Roof work, wall work, window cleaning and ceiling work. All slow-paced, high-altitude jobs can be done more safely and more quickly with a scissor lift, due their ability to move while extended.
  • Reaching storage racks. Many high weight items are now placed on high shelves; carrying a heavy item down a ladder is not only unsafe, but also hard on your body.

They're Simple And Safe

Scissor lifts are simple, and are almost perfected in design. The innovations which have advanced scissor lifts have been relatively minor, due to the innate efficiency of the design.

The simplicity of scissor lifts lead to their use requiring little to no training. Little can go wrong other than their users falling out, which is extremely unlikely if they're alert.
